Regenerative Cell Therapy

What is regenerative cell therapy?

Regenerative cell therapy is a nonsurgical treatment that promotes the repair response of diseased, dysfunctional, or injured tissue using injections of human cell and tissue products. It can be thought of as prolotherapy or Prolozone® using human tissue. These products increase the body’s own ability to heal and regenerate. The treatment is used to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and improve function.

After years of research, we have chosen to offer our patients regenerative cell therapy using umbilical cord tissue, specifically Wharton’s jelly. Wharton’s jelly has growth factors, cytokines, natural nano particles, high molecular weight hyaluronic acid, and medicinal signal cells.

How does it work?

Regenerative cell therapy at our clinic uses human cell and tissue products from the umbilical cord, Wharton’s jelly, to stimulate healing. Wharton’s jelly, the gelatinous substance that protects and insulates the umbilical cord vessels, is rich in growth factors, cytokines, scaffolding proteins, high molecular hyaluronic acid, pathway signaling molecules, and medicinal signaling cells.

When injected into damaged areas, the body’s natural healing ability is stimulated. The complex rally of many cells, growth factors, proteins, and molecules help aid the regenerative process and awakens the body’s healing response. Dr. Kramer uses this sophisticated treatment to replenish what the body needs for repair where the body needs it.

Is it safe?

The human cell and tissue products used at our office have been carefully sourced, screened, and processed at an FDA registered lab that follows the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) standards, Current Good Tissue Practice (CGTP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), and World Health Organization (WHO) protocols. Extensive research and careful selection has been done to choose the products used in our office meeting the highest standards of safety, excellence, integrity, sterility, and preservation available. Dr. Kramer will review the risks associated with any type of medical treatment before any treatment.

There are studies underway using human cell and tissue products for musculoskeletal conditions. The FDA regulates human cell and tissue products under section 361 of the Public Health Service (PHS) Act. These regulations can be found in 21 CFR Part 1271. Human cell and tissue products have been used for a number of years for musculoskeletal applications but are not standard of care and are considered investigational.

What conditions can be treated by regenerative cell therapy?

Regenerative cell therapy is best for musculoskeletal problems including arthritis, degenerative joint disease, degenerative disks and other pain problems.
